Since being a member of WHR from almost the start up of the radio station at the Manor Hospital, I have seen many changes, mainly as you would expect on the technical side of how the programmes are bought to your bedside.

From the vinyl discs (45's and LP's) cassettes for the jingles, although some requests are still played on vinyl. It then progressed to Cd's and minidisks. We now have the use of computers for 50% of our out put with 24 hour play out system, which puts out your favourite records along with interviews with people of interest outside within the hospital.

To be part of the programmes on WHR you can ring the station on 01922 637272 or the INTERNAL EXTENSION number 7272. Keeping up to date you can text your requests or a message to 83252. Text WHR (then leave a space) then your message to 83252 (texts cost 25p + your standard network charge.)

On a personal theme, I am pleased to be back in charge of the work experience programme that started around 10 years ago. Naturally it has been expanded and improved upon over the years by the people who have ran the scheme. It is a great pleasure to pick up where

they have left off. The idea of the scheme is to give students an insight of radio presenting, production and how hospital radio works, as well as gaining confidence by meeting people. The students come up for a week where they are shown how to produce a show, find records, research news, weather and items of interest to include on the programme, culminating to them producing their own programme on the last day.

Not only are we the patient's choice, we are the students choice as well.
