Wolverhampton Speedway Reporter Matt Buck

Home

Hi, I'm Matt Buck and I've been with WHR for 5 years now as a member of our highly efficient sports team.

my two main jobs with the station are as presenter of reports extra, the round up  of the days big sporting headlines, namely the full time scores ( including an Aston Villa win hopefully!) and the says racing results.

My main domain with the station is following the fortunes of Wolverhampton Speedway, the club I have followed since 1990.

In spite of a miserable 2005 season for Wolves, twelve months after being pipped to the Elite League title by Poole, WHR was there every step of the way, with reports all the way from March through till October.

In the last few years, the sport has become a major part of WHR's sport output. Our profile has been raided thanks to a special (and very hot!) guest appearance of Wolves Youth team boss Derek Bodley and former Wolves star Chris Neath (now racing on load at Premier League outfit Rye House, winners of the 2005 Premier League and Premier Trophy) in June 2003. Since then, guests have included Steve Johnson, author of the biography of former World Champion Bruce Penhall and Birmingham Speedway supporter Brian Bott and Brian Buck (that name sounds familiar) on the fight revive the sports in the second city.

As the countdown to a new era for WHR begins speedway will remain a key component of that (hopefully) golden future. I love every minute at Walsall Hospital Radio, but fame hasn't got to the extent of people jumping on me when I set outside the door thankfully!

All the best and get well soon.
